Although
very highly prized as a gem, the diamond is merely plain crystallized carbon
(Carbon, C). Ordinary carbon is the most common substance on earth, found in
all living things, plants as well as animals. The diamond is the hardest of
all natural substances. A diamond ranks 10 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness. This
resistance to abrasion gives the diamond its unsurpassed wearability, its brilliance
and its dispersion (fire). However, a diamond can be chipped or broken if hit
hard enough from certain angles (cleavage directions); and if the girdle has
been cut too thin, the diamond can be chipped with even a modest blow. It is
important to remember that even though "Diamonds Are Forever," a diamond
can scratch another diamond. With so many facts and information about diamonds,
it is difficult to remember them all. That is why we have provided you with
an entire Baokha web page about diamond facts, diamond care, diamond certification,
and how to read diamond grading reports. At this point, we would like to invite
you to enter the Diamond Information page so
that you may learn more about such a precious gemstone.
